The MVP Curse - Will Lamar Jackson Suffer in 2020?

By Ben Bagley In each of the last two seasons, a second-year quarterback has skyrocketed to superstardom with unforeseen phenomenal seasons that resulted in MVP awards and – for many fantasy owners who were lucky (or savvy) enough to draft them – a league championship. Of course, those players were Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson.  Last season, coming off of a 5,000-yard, 50 touchdown MVP campaign, Patrick Mahomes was the clear-cut QB1 across all fantasy leagues. He shot up draft boards and his average draft position was 16 across all fantasy platforms. However, in 2019, he suffered a massive drop off in production, only throwing for 4,000 yards and 26 TDs, en route to ending the season as QB8. Part of that was due to a knee injury that saw him miss two games, but most of it was due to a trend that can be observed over the last 10 years: players who win the MVP award perform at a lower level in their encore season. Steals of the 2020 NFL Draft

The 2020 NFL has come and gone and there were plenty of storylines. The Green Bay Packers left many around the league puzzled at a few of the moves they made. However, there were many teams that nearly perfected this years draft and even had a few prospects slide back and be drafted later than projected. Today, we will take a look at the steals of the 2020 NFL Draft! Tristan Wirfs, OT, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Seen by many as a possible top five pick, Tristan Wirfs of Iowa dropped right into the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who trade up one spot, to select the star offensive tackle. Wirfs has plenty of upside and will be an instant starter protecting newly acquired quarterback Tom Brady. I'm sure the Tampa Bay brass were drooling at the mouth seeing Wirfs slide back so far.
